Chapter 20

Zen

My gaze falls to Rhea as she sits at the foot of the bed, sweeping a comb through her hair with a scowl dominating her features. A full night’s rest after the cluster fuck that was yesterday, and she still doesn’t seem to be any less stressed. It’s not going to go away until she has everything resolved. That’s how her brain works, and I admire her for it, but fuck, she has me worried about her.

We haven’t seen or heard from Nyx since Rhea walked away from the dining table yesterday and Khaos, Adonis, Xander, and I followed after her. I’m hoping it’s because she’s doing exactly what she said; gathering the people she believes will work with us.

For a war.

It doesn’t sound real, and I’m sure we’re coming across as naive because we’ve never been part of a war before, but it hadn’t even registered in my brain that we would need people to help us. Not because I thought we were above the rest of the supernatural world, but because I didn’t realize that we could reach out to others.

Swiping a hand down my face, I pull myself from my thoughts once more. The more we, the Elites, seem to sink into our minds, the more Rhea does too. It’s our responsibility to support her, and sitting here like this is doing the complete opposite.

The thought of her spread out on the bed, arms above her head and my hand marks on her ass flash through my mind, but I don’t think that’s what we need to be doing again today. Maybe later, but I think she needs to focus on something that will be productive to the situation.

Looking down at my cell phone once more, I groan when I still don’t have anything from my mother regarding Harmonia’s situation. Patience is key here and things like this always take time, but we have little of it, and every second is precious.

Fuck.

I need distracting too.

Khaos sighs heavily from where he lies on the bed, head in his hands, as he gets annoyed with sitting around doing nothing.

“We can’t sit here waiting for a response all day,” Xander almost shouts, stepping out of the bathroom with a new sense of purpose around him, and I perk up, nodding in agreement.

“You’re right. We need to do something productive, something that will keep us busy and help us in the long run,” I explain, slipping my cellphone into my pocket as I approach Rhea.

Adonis sits up from his spot on the other side of her and Khaos follows suit, everyone ready to get out of this room at the very least.

“What are we supposed to do?” Rhea asks, her eyes downcast as she shakes her head in frustration. “I feel helpless.” I hate those words falling from her lips, but it’s the truth, and we have to accept it, and work with it.

“You’re not helpless, Venom. We just need something to focus on instead of looking at the bigger picture.
